IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP & MAKE A CHANGE

One day, when Mike was out surfing, he watched a plastic bag float by his board. He knew -right there and then- that Oakland Coffee needed to be part of the solution, not the problem. So we set out to find 100% compostable packaging...which didn’t exist. All of the big companies said it couldn’t be done. We thought that was a pretty trashy idea.

REVOLUTIONIZING COFFEE PACKAGING

We teamed up with a badass group of engineers and fellow revolutionaries to get the job done. It was a long road that wasn’t always easy. Our coffee bags and single serve cups are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute, making us the first coffee company to exclusively use fully certified compostable packaging.

FARMS & COMMUNITIES

Great beans are grown by great farmers. Our partners practice organic, sustainable farming that maximizes the quality of the beans without harming the land. These techniques support native wildlife, keep harmful pesticides out of waterways, and maintain soil health. Every bean is hand-picked and chosen at the perfect point of ripeness.

COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE

Choosing organic has a bigger impact than you might think. The organic farms and cooperatives where our beans are grown integrate a variety of plants and crops into the landscape. This supports the natural biodiversity of the land, including better soil quality, health of pollinators, and natural pest management. Organic farming also keeps local water sources clean from harmful chemicals often found in synthetic pesticides. Your commitment to buying organic supports the health of the farmers and the land that they pour their love into.

From the villages where our coffee is grown, to our neighborhood in Oakland, to your own community, we believe in giving back and supporting the people who make this journey so damn awesome. It is important to us to listen to the wants of the community and work cooperatively to make the biggest impact. Our current commitment--supporting local food banks-- aims to raise awareness of food inequity and ensure that our neighbors who are most at need receive the vital nourishment that they deserve.
